Shots Fired VideoShots Fired

Shootings on college campuses are relatively rare occurrences, but the tragedies at Northern Illinois University, Virginia Tech, and the University of Arizona serve as painful but important reminders that all members of the IPFW community should be prepared to respond in the unlikely event that such does take place on our campus. Shots Fired: When Lightening Strikes (Campus and University Edition) and Shots Fired on Campus: When Lightening Strikes are being made available online to the IPFW community as part of a set of campus preparedness training resources that will be offered to our students, staff, and faculty at the recommendation of IPFW’s Campus Crisis Management Planning Committee. While no training can offer a guarantee of survival, the videos (produced by the Center for Personal Protection and Safety and licensed by IPFW) provide information that may be helpful in surviving an active shooter situation.

The two videos offer similar information but demonstrate application of the information in different settings. Shots Fired: When Lightening Strikes focuses on responding to an incident while in an office setting. It may be of particular interest to staff and faculty. Shots Fired on Campus: When Lightening Strikes addresses response while in a classroom or campus commons area. Members of the campus community may it helpful to view one, the other, or both.

As campus safety is a shared responsibility, we ask that all members of the IPFW community step forward and view at least one of these videos at their earliest convenience. Please also help assure that other members of the community are aware of the availability of these training resources.

Members of the University Police are available to offer guided training utilizing either of the two videos for offices, classes, student organizations, and other groups on campus. Please call 260-481-6827 for assistance in scheduling a presentation.
