Success By Six: ISTEP

There is a great deal of data available on ISTEPs, and if you are simply looking for the most recent scores by school, we suggest using the site sponsored by the Journal Gazette. Their database includes Allen County results and the results of all other counties they cover with 2002 through the 2007/08 school year. Alternately, you can access the Indiana Department of Education web site, which has a tremendous amount of ISTEP data by school. Both of these resources list the 5th and 7th grade Science Isteps for each school as well.

This web site provides a summary or average by school corporations as well as Allen County averages for the percentage of those passing both Math and English/Language Arts, and more recently, the Science ISTEP. The numbers used in this summary are based on students who pass both parts (math and english/language arts). Details on those passing just one part of the ISTEP, as well as PASS PLUS results, are available on the Indiana Department of Education web site. The percent of 5th and 7th graders in Allen County passing SCIENCE ISTEP are at the end of this page.

OTHER ISTEP DATA

The following sets of data had been prepared by Community Research Institute, but are no longer being updated. If you have a strong need for this type of data, please contact CRI.

"Percent Passing Both Parts" (i.e. math and English/language arts) for every public school in Allen County for prior years 2004/05 and 2005/06 are available but there are no plans to update this given that current data is available on the Journal Gazette site (see above).

There is a set of Cohort Charts for each school which provide tracking for a 3 or 4 year period for the (approximately) same group of students. For example,school istep scores for those who were 3rd graders in 2003/04 and are now currently 5th graders in 2005/06 are shown (click to link).

Another example of the data that comes from the ISTEP test include average scores by Free or reduced lunch participation and ISTEPS: provides a specific look a 4th and 10th grade ISTEP corporation scores by whether the student is on the free or reduced lunch program (for specific information on that particular program and data on Allen County schools, see the specific site). That is, this data is suggesting using free and reduced lunch participation as a proxy for income to gather information. Data shown is for 2005/06. There are no plans at this point to update this data by CRI.

Compare: ISTEP scores by school corporation broken out by race and ethnicity, and special reporting groups (Free/Reduced Lunch, Special Education, and English Proficiency) have been summarized for grade 4 and grade 10 and compared to State averages. Once again, this option serves as background information as to what additional types of information can be provided by ISTEP.

SCIENCE ISTEP scores for 5th Grade for each elementary school in Allen Count for 03/04 to 05/06. Corporation summaries, including non-public schools, and a calculated average for total Allen County. The average percent passing for each corporations, as well as averages for Catholic schools, Lutheran schools, Timothy Johnson, and Blackhawk Christian are also shown for 2005/06. The State average percent passing was 65 percent in 2005/06 and Allen County's average percent passing was 63 percent. 1,665 5th grade students did not pass ISTEP SCIENCE in 2005/06. Individual school science scores are available on the Journal Gazette site, CRI will provide corporation and county aggregates.
