K-12 enrollment in the 4 public school corporations
have increased by 6.5 percent from 2000/01 to 2007/08 school year. This is an increase of 3,286 students.
The largest increase has been
in the number of high school students (an increase of 15.6%) followed by
an increase in K-2 enrollment with an increase of 5.7%. The middle school grade enrollment (grades 6-8) was up 5.2 percent and the 3-5 grades had a slight decline of 291 students, or -2.4 percent. Allen County's largest school corporation, Fort Wayne Community Schools, has increased its K-12 enrollment by 87 students, a 0.3% increase.
Overall K-12 enrollment for the four public school corporations declined slightly by 58 students in 2007-08 from 2006-07. This is the first year since CRI has been tracking the data to note a decline. The FWCS was down 359 students and EACS was down 4 students.
The percentage of Allen County High School graduates earning an Honors
Diploma has increased since 2001. At that time, 32.5 percent of all graduates
chose an honors degree; for the graduating class of 2006/07, it was 38.6 percent.
1,854 tenth graders from the Allen County public schools did not pass both parts of their GQE
(Graduate Qualifying Exam, or 10th grade ISTEP) in 2007/08. This is 44 percent of all 10th graders attending the public schools in Allen County, This test is required for graduation. These students will have 5 additional chances to retake this test before the end of their senior year.
Fifty six percent (56.0%) of all high school seniors in the public schools in Allen County had taken the SAT by the time they graduated in 2006. This test, or the ACT, is required for admission to college.
