Beginning in 2006/07, all students must complete the CORE 40 curriculum. An "opt-out" process is possible, however. In addition, graduation requirements include passing the Graduate Qualifying Exam, but once again, there is a process to graduate even if the successful pass rate is never achieved on the GQE.

**Note: Indiana Department of Education has been redefining their process of calculating the graduation rates by better tracking of individual students. Some of this change in procedure may be starting to show up in the 2004/05 data. See article reported in Indianapolis Star dated 09/21/02 and comments by CRI in the High School Dropouts and Youth at Risk section of this web site.

Definitions, Sources, and Caveats:
Certificate of Achievement: Special Education Students who are not capable of earning a diploma, but who completed the public school education program prescribed in the student's IEP. Search the Indiana Department of Education web site for more information.

Course Completion: Individuals who completed the minimum courses required for High School Graduation but did not meet the Graduation Qualifying Examination requirement.

What are the requirements for graduation? What is needed for the Core 40 Diploma-or perhaps the question is "what was needed" or "what will be required beginning in 2007?"
What about the Honors Diploma? The requirements for this program are also changing--this link to the Dept of Education's page will answer your questions about this Diploma.
