In Memory of
Dr. Richard C. Hess
1942-2007
The Department of Communication mourns the passing of
Dr. Richard Hess.
Dr. Richard Hess joined the Department of Communication at IPFW in 1968. As rhetoric is the foundation of the discipline, so Dick was a founding pillar of this department. His legacy to the university and the department is considerable. He was one of the faculty instrumental in envisioning and implementing the Masters of Professional Communication, helping shepherd it through the approval process and serving as its first Graduate Director. Richard Hess was also an outstanding university citizen, serving as Presiding Officer of the Faculty Senate four times (including presently) as well as other university service too numerous to mention. Dick also served the community in many ways for many years. Two of his favorite activities were Boy Scouts of America and Habitat for Humanity.
His colleagues and students will miss him. There will be a celebration of his life Saturday, December 1, at 11am, Plymouth Congregational Church.
