FAQs

The Co-op Office defines internship as a one-semester paid work experience. A co-op is multi-term and provides more in-depth experience. Both are paid experiences through the Co-op Office.

Do I have to pay for any of your services?

No. All of our services are free to IPFW Students.

If I accept a co-op or internship through the Co-op Office, do I get paid for working?

Absolutely. All students are paid competitive wages. The salary range for 2007 was $8.00-$21.94. The average wage was $13.11.

I’ve never interviewed before, can you help me?

Yes. The co-op staff makes sure you are prepared by offering free mock interviews so you know what to expect in the interview, who you will talk to and what the job entails.

Why are Fort Wayne area companies hiring co-ops?

Many employers use our Co-op Program to recruit full-time employees. Approximately 75% of IPFW students graduating with bachelor’s degrees who have co-op or internship experience are hired by employers in the program. Co-ops in other states can also be arranged.

What kind of employers are you talking about?

400 Coop employers including manufacturers, banks, CPA firms, health agencies, government agencies, and others.

I’m afraid I won’t have enough knowledge and skills to do the work?

You can start co-op after completion of your freshman year. Employers realize that students will not start with as much education or experience as new graduates. Since co-ops and internships are training programs, employers design assignments based on student abilities with supervisors and mentors to help students.

Am I obligated to accept an offer for a full-time position with my co-op employer after graduation?

No. But, after you co-op, you will gain valuable insights into that organization so you can make an informed decision. Chances are, any employer that offered you challenges, respect, consideration, and training as a co-op, will offer similar incentives to you as a full-time employee.
