Pap Smears
A yearly Pap exam is recommended for women who are sexually active (or plan to be soon) or who are over the age of 18. Each year 15,000 women in the United States are diagnosed with cancer of the cervix. Regular pelvic exams and Pap tests enable most pre-cancerous conditions to be detected and treated before cancer develops, preventing more invasive cancers from developing. This is not an STD screen, however, these can be done during the same visit.
