In the Classroom
The Child Care Center consists of four classrooms and two playgrounds. There is one larger classroom as you enter through the main door. The remaining three classrooms are somewhat smaller and accomodate smaller class sizes. Furnishings are child-sized to encourage independence of use.
Each classroom is arranged in a similar fashion. Interest centers are arranged to encourage small group work in areas which encourage dramatic play, art, reading, building, writing, and eating.
The daily schedule provides for choice time, small and large group activities, planned activities, snack time, outdoor play, and rest time.
Table areas over tile flooring provide space for messy activities, as well as seating for snack and meals.
Snacks are provided morning, afternoon, and evening. Teaching children good nutrition is part of our curriculum; as such, we provide a wide array of healthy snacks, including fresh fruit and vegetables. Snacks are free from preservatives and additives. To avoid severe allergic reactions, we do not serve any peanut butter or peanut related snacks. Baking and cooking the snack with the children are included periodically.
Each child brings his/her own lunch or dinner. Children are encouraged to open and clean up their lunch items. Sitting together, sharing conversation, and good manners are encouraged.
Children under the age of first grade take a 1/2 hour rest after lunch. Children enjoy rest on a short cot with their favorite naptime blanket or stuffed animal, if so desired. Soft music, soft lighting, and reading aloud contribute to a relaxed setting.
Outdoor play is offered morning, afternoon, and evening year round, unless rainy or below 25 degrees. Each of the fenced playgrounds include a climber, sandbox, shade trees, a playhouse, and basketball hoop. The larger playground includes a black top surface for riding toys available at various times for all age groups.
