Apply to the SE Graduate Program

So you're ready to apply to the IPFW Master of Science program in Engineering?  Great!  Whether you are applying to obtain an M.S.E. specializing in Systems Engineering or just to receive a graduate certificate in Systems Engineering, the process is almost identical.  The instructions here will help you navigate the process.

Admission Criteria

First, let's review the basic admission criteria.  It is preferred that applicants have the following background:

  • a bachelor's degree in engineering, technology, computer science, the physical sciences, or mathematics,
  • an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher,
  • and for non-native speakers, English proficiency demonstrated by an exam such as the TOEFL

If you are interested in the program but don't quite meet these specifications, that's OK.  Contact us at segrad@ipfw.edu before starting an application and we'll work with you to determine if there are any options that can help your case for admission or improve your eligibility.

Our program does not require you to take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).

What You'll Need

Application to the graduate programs in Systems Engineering is done through the Purdue Graduate School.  As you step through the application process, you'll need a couple of things:

  • your official college transcript
  • a written Statement of Purpose
  • a minimum of three (3) Letters of Recommendation

Transcripts can either be mailed to IPFW or submitted electronically, but they need to be official.

Your Statement of Purpose should be about 300 to 500 words describing your plan and reason for graduate study at IPFW.  You can also use it to explain any special requests or circumstances you might have.

In addition to these items, it may be helpful to have a current copy of your resumé as a guide to fill out the various fields in the application form.
