Orientation to Teaching Online
Starts Monday, September 14 and ends Friday, October 2 (3 weeks)
Facilitator: CELT staff

In this online workshop you will learn to facilitate online discussion, effective practices for interacting online, and how to support collaborative group work online. You should plan to spend 4-6 hours on the activities of the course over a period of three weeks. The workshop will be conducted in Blackboard Vista. This workshop is recommended if you are applying for a DECCO grant (DECCO applications due 9/30/09). Registration required.

A First Look at Second Life
Starts Monday, September 21 and ends Friday October 8 (3 weeks)
Facilitator: Gail Rathbun, CELT

What is Second Life and how could it enhance your students’ learning? This self-guided, discussion-based introduction to the virtual world called Second Life (http://slurl.com/secondlife/) will run three weeks. You can work at your own pace. You should plan to spend 3-5 hours on this course over the three week period. Registration is required in order to provide access to the course in Blackboard Vista.

“Suite-en” your Teaching with Adobe CS4
Friday, September 4, from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm in KT 118
Workshop Instructors: ITS and CELT staff

Workshop participants will receive an overview of the ways that selected Adobe applications from the CS4 suite can support teaching, such as Adobe Lightroom, Acrobat 9, Adobe Connect, and Photoshop. Lecture, demonstration, and hands-on activities. Registration required.

Making Evaluation Easier with Rubrics and Grading Forms

Editing Video from the Desktop

Workshop Instructor: Darlene Miller, CELT

Learn the basics of video editing: getting footage from your camera into your computer, editing a movie, adding titles and making clips with a few simple drag-and-drops using software available on your desktop. Participants will learn about streaming, compression, why understanding codecs is important, the purpose of video formats such as .wmv, .swf, and .mov. Registration required.

SoTL Work Group
Monday, September 14, from 12:00 pm - 1:15 pm in KT 101 and also Monday, September 28, from 12:00 pm - 1:15 pm in KT 101

Finding time to work on a SoTL project is difficult. The work group provides a way for you to schedule small blocks of time on a regular basis to work through each step in the process. The work group will use a guide created by the campus CASTL (Carnegie Academy for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning) committee, incorporating short individual assignments and group activities designed to help you progress toward your goal of a finished proposal ready for submission to IRB. Attendance at all sessions is expected. Fruit, snacks, and drink will be served. Registration required.
