Making Evaluation Easier with Rubrics and Grading Forms

Do you hesitate to include writing assignments in your courses because of the workload they create? Are you tired of writing the same thing on every paper you read? Do you want to return papers to students more quickly? In this self-paced, self-directed online workshop you will learn how a good rubric applied to assignments via the Blackboard Vista Grading Form can streamline the grading process. The course materials and activities will be available over a period of four weeks in Blackboard Vista. The workshop facilitator will be available to answer your questions and provide technical assistance. Registration is required.

Motivating Students to Use Critical Thinking
Starts Monday, October 26 and ends Friday, October 30 (1 week)

This workshop is a follow-up to “Teaching Critical Thinking”, offered online last year. In this online workshop you and your colleagues will discuss effective methods for getting students to apply the critical thinking techniques they have learned. Plan to spend 30-60 minutes participating in this discussion-based event over a period of one week. The workshop will be conducted in Blackboard Vista. Registration is required.

Introduction to the Macintosh

If the Macintosh is uncharted territory for you, sign on for this exploratory expedition to Neff B73, IPFW’s newest teaching lab. You will learn the basics of the Macintosh Operating System and get a feel for some of the tools that can make Web 2.0 content creation a snap. Producing Digital Audio for Teaching and Learning

Increase the amount of time your students spend with your course content and enhance your social presence online by learning to create and edit your own digital audio recordings. In this workshop you will learn to use Audacity, a free audio production software to record and edit audio lectures, convert audio to mp3 format for podcasting, upload to Blackboard Vista or PowerPoint, or download from the web. Demonstration, hands-on activities, and individual consultation will be included. Registration is required.

Providing Feedback in a Technology-Mediated Environment (webinar)

Creating Conference Poster Sessions with Adobe CS4

Why doesn’t my print look the same as it did on my monitor? Printing Services and CELT partner to provide you the solutions to your printing problems and questions. Learn how to prepare color printing work correctly, particularly those needed for conference poster sessions and classes. This presentation will cover the correct color modes to use, resolution, and how to re-size, among other topics, that will help prevent poor quality prints and color mistakes. Printing Services will discuss the correct formats and procedures to provide them with the best quality output file to get the most out of your project. Registration is required.

SoTL Work Group
Monday, October 19, from 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm in LB 419
Co-Facilitators: Michael Bendele and CASTL Committee members
Finding time to work on a SoTL project is difficult. The work group provides a way for you to schedule small blocks of time on a regular basis to work through each step in the process. The work group will use a guide created by the campus CASTL (Carnegie Academy for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning) committee, incorporating short individual assignments and group activities designed to help you progress toward your goal of a finished proposal ready for submission to IRB. Attendance at all sessions is expected. Fruit, snacks, and drink will be served. The first meeting will be an overview of SoTL research process and the plan of work for the semester.
