Writing Lab
In the Writing Center, we have computers available for student use on writing projects. No appointment is needed to work on these computers, but we do ask that you limit your use of our writing lab to writing-related work. To check e-mail, surf the internet, or print off research, your work, or class materials, we ask that you use one of the open access computer labs. When you use one of the writing lab computers, please sign into TutorTrac at the kiosk with “Walk In Lab Use,” and sign out at the kiosk before you leave.
Our Library
We have style manuals, dictionaries, grammar and usage guides available for reference in the Writing Center. We keep current copies of the most commonly used composition textbooks and style manuals in our library, and if you have trouble locating what you need, anyone available will be happy to assist you.
Our Handouts
Our handouts have been developed to meet the needs of our students and faculty. Although our handouts are posted online, we also have copies in the Writing Center. Just ask any available consultant for help with what you need.
Drop-In Consulting
In the fall of 2007, the Helmke Library will continue to hold Mobile Librarian drop-in consulting hours in the Writing Center, during which students receive immediate help with finding research materials. Mobile Librarian Drop-In Schedule.
To supplement the Mobile Librarian drop-in hours, the Writing Center also will begin offering drop-in consulting, during which students receive immediate help with citing sources of information within their papers and help with reference or works cited pages. Consultants spend only a short amount of time with each student on a first-come, first-served basis. Writing Center Drop-In Schedule.
Hours for both the Mobile Librarian and Writing Center Drop-In Consulting vary by semester.
