Appointments
Appointments in the Writing Center can make writing easier for you and save you time. Think of time spent in the Writing Center as integral—not extra—to writing your paper well. If you schedule an appointment before you put anything on paper, we can help you understand your assignment, brainstorm, outline your paper, or develop a research plan. If you come in with a draft, we can help you with idea development and flow, organization, citing sources, or grammar and punctuation. A small investment of time with us can save you hours of struggling by yourself.
We offer writing help to all of the members of the IPFW community including undergraduate and graduate students, faculty and staff, returning adults, students for whom English is a Second Language, and both experienced and beginning writers.
Work with us as you write for any class, including researched papers, analytical papers, argumentative and persuasive papers, reaction papers, creative writing projects, business and technical writing, lab reports, engineering projects, and nursing case studies—to name only a few types of assignments. We can help you learn how to narrow your focus and stay focused, why to include certain research materials and reject others, how to make meaning from your sources and show this meaning in your paper, how a reader might react to your paper, and how to revise. Every writer needs a reader!
Appointment Policies
Sign up for appointments using TutorTrac, and meet your consultant in the Writing Center, Kettler G19. If you need an appointment right away, call the Writing Center to see if there are any available times today.
When you have an appointment, please arrive on time and bring your assignment. Consultants will wait 5 minutes for a writer before taking someone waiting for a walk-in appointment. So that we know you've arrived, initial next to your name on the sign-in sheet at the front desk and use your student username to log into TutorTrac (we’ll show you how). If you're early, help yourself to any refreshments, and feel free to have a seat or work at a computer. A consultant should be out to meet you shortly.
You are allowed to sign up for three hours of writing assistance per week with no more than one hour per day. If you cannot attend your appointment, cancel it at least two hours before your appointment time. To cancel the appointment, you can delete the appointment through TutorTrac up until midnight before the day of your appointment or leave a message at 260-481-5740 on the day of your appointment. (Consider programming the number into your cell phone.) If you fail to cancel two appointments without notifying us at least two hours before the appointment or totally miss two appointments, we may have to limit your visits to those available on a walk-in basis. Thank you for your cooperation!
