The Center for Academic Support and Advancement
Mission
The Center for Academic Support and Advancement (CASA) provides and coordinates access to academic support services on campus. The core mission of CASA is to help all students within the IPFW community to achieve academic success. Specifically, the mission is to help “underprepared students to prepare, prepared students to advance, and advanced students to excel” (NADE—National Association of Developmental Education). CASA aims to serve the Northeast Indiana region through outreach and coordination with various community agencies.
Goals
- Help students acquire the skills they will need in order to succeed in a range of courses needed for their degrees
- Help students become confident, independent learners who understand their strengths and limitations and choose learning strategies accordingly
- Help non-native speakers of English meet the academic expectations of IPFW
- Engage in outreach programs within the region

Math Test Center Mission
The Math Test Center is for students who elect to take Out-of-Class Testing or Flex Pacing. The center is staffed with knowledgeable math teaching assistants.
Why use this support through Out-of-Class Testing or Flex Pacing?
- Achieve better understanding of math concepts
- Reduce test anxiety
- Improve scores on math tests
What does the Math Test Center offer with Out-of-Class Testing or Flex Pacing?
An opportunity to:
- Take specific math test(s) more than once
- Take math tests without a time limit
- Review errors before retesting
- Have students’ highest test scores used in the semester grade
Tutoring Mission
The Spot provides academic assistance for all IPFW students with their content classes and/or study strategies. Students meet with a tutor or professional staff to talk about and work on the understanding of specific material. The center is staffed by experienced tutors and staff who have been trained to help others.
