Here are some important steps you need to follow as you register for your classes.
All students being admitted in Fall 2008 who have SAT and/or ACT test scores will be able to use those scores for their reading placement. If you took both the SAT and the ACT, your higher score is the one that counts. However, if you have not taken either the SAT or ACT test, or your scores are more than two years old, you should take the placement tests on campus. (Placement tests link)
At IPFW, the most important goal for our students is success. We want our students and graduates to be well-positioned for academic excellence, knowing that this excellence will lead to success in life. Although reading might seem to be a very elementary skill for students to have, we understand that the amount of reading you will be expected to do in college will be different than it was in high school. More will be expected of you to ensure your success, and the material you encounter will be challenging.
Students arrive on our campus with varying skill levels in collegiate level reading, studying, and writing. For that reason, we have several courses or “paths” available to meet your needs and encourage your development as a successful IPFW graduate.
Critical Inquiry (COAS-W111) is always linked
to core academic courses such as Biology, Anthropology,
Psychology, or Chemistry that are frequently
a challenge for students. Anyone may sign up
for Critical Inquiry because the classes are
not limited to those with a reading placement
requirement. Critical Inquiry may be taken
either fall or spring semester of your first
year.

Students are strongly encouraged to enroll in Foundations for Success (IDIS-G104). In this course, you will be provided with information that will help you succeed at IPFW and beyond, including time management, effective goal setting, efficient team skills, emotional intelligence, and many more skills that enhance an individual’s abilities to succeed in academic, professional, and personal pursuits.
