“How Generous Are We? Analyzing US Help to Countries in Need”

Critics often say that the US doesn’t do enough to help countries in need of aid. Most Americans believe that we already do far more than our share. Which view is closer to the truth? To answer that question, this talk first asks whether generosity means something different in the world of international politics than it does in our everyday interactions with one another. It then explains how US foreign aid policies work and how they compare to those of other wealthy countries. Finally, it asks how accurate official foreign aid policies are as a measure of one country’s generosity toward others.
