J-N-D Company, Inc.

J-N-D Company, Inc. manufactures premium egg noodles for the retail and food service markets. J-N-D recently moved its production from a 1,100 to a 17,000 square-foot production facility. The team assessed the current production process, and offered operational improvements to assist in the development of a consistent product quality, as well as improved cash flow. The team offered the company a marketing plan to outline steps to improve profitability by focusing on the the following:

  • Maintaining consistent process control and quality,
  • Maintaining or increasing local market share
  • Increasing throughput and productivity through cost reduction, and
  • Providing tools and methods for process measurement.

The team also developed an action plan to provide for continuous improvement:

  • Processed flow chart to assist in identifying problem areas, and to introduce quality assurance measures,
  • Metrics to measure and determine process consistency and quality for tracking and comparison purposes, and
  • Strategic plan to enhance the company's marketing efforts.

The Faculty Advisor for this project was James Moore and Janet Iden Kamdar. The SBDC Advisor was Don Wright. The team consisted of Juita-Elena Yusuf, Leader; James Troy Blake; Eric Todd Haar; Todd Jeffry Korb; and Gail Oran Plush.
