Business Advisory Council
Purpose
The overall purpose of the Business Advisory Council is to provide a business perspective for the strategic direction of the Richard T. Doermer School of Business and Management Sciences and to serve as a sounding board for its plans and programs. More specifically, the Business Advisory Council will:
- serve as an advocate for the school and its programs to the community,
- provide feedback from the community to the school that would enable the school to improve its programs and more effectively meet the needs of the community and the northeast Indiana regional economy,
- provide an independent and unbiased review of the school’s current programs and future plans,
- facilitate contacts with influential people in business and not-for-profit organizations for the mutual benefit of the school and outside firms or organizations.
Membership
The Council will comprise of 25 to 30 members from northeast Indiana. Members must have an active interest in college level business education, in improving the northeast Indiana economy and in the school itself. Initially, members will be selected by the Dean in consultation with the faculty of the school and IPFW administrators. Subsequently, person may be nominated for membership by any member of the University community, including members of the Advisory Council. A nominee will be deemed elected to the Council upon receiving a least seventy-five percent positive votes from the members present and eligible to vote at a Council meeting. There shall be no term limit on Council membership. The Dean and Associate Deans will serve as ex-officio members of the Council.
Member Responsibilities
Each Council member is expected to:
- attend a minimum of one meeting per year,
- actively participate in the functioning of the Council and in the achievement of the purposes outlined above,
- be available for individual consultations with the Dean and the Chairperson of the Council.
Officers
A chairperson and a vice-chairperson elected by the Advisory Council for one three-year term shall serve as officers of the Advisory Council. The chairperson shall preside at all meetings of the Council. The chairperson in consultation with the vice-chairperson and Dean may appoint committees from Council members for specific purposes or tasks. Minutes of Council meetings and correspondence will coordinated by the Office of the Dean.
Meetings
The Advisory Council will meet at least twice a year. Committee of the council will meet as needed, but at least once a year. Meetings will typically be held in the morning.
