Facilities
IPFW has a lot to offer both traditional and nontraditional students – and the Department of Biology is no exception! The IPFW Department of Biology has an impressive arsenal of cutting edge equipment and facilities to support our exceptional faculty in education and research. Don’t expect to just see these hi-tech resources through the windows of closed doors – for an IPFW biology major, they will be an integral part of your hands-on education in life science.
In the summer of 1998, we moved into a new 26 million dollar state-of-the-art science building which houses the Department of Biology, Chemistry and Geosciences. The main floor of the building contains two large lecture halls, meeting rooms, and a student lounge. The Department of Biology resides on the third floor, where students will find offices and laboratories for both learning and research. The lower level of the building contains a greenhouse, several smaller classrooms, and a student access computer lab. The other floors of the building are devoted to chemistry and geology.
IPFW currently has over 250 Biology undergraduate majors and almost 50 graduate students. All of the classes in biology are held in the new Science Building. Class sizes range from over one-hundred students in the core classes to as little as ten or fewer in the more specialized upper level courses.
