Holds Off Lakers

Mercyhurst College's all-time record against IPFW is 0-19. Win
number twenty was no walk in the park for the Mastodons on
Friday night, at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center.
The Mastodons
got 32 kills from senior opposite hitter Matt Zbyszewski to
survive a huge scare from the Lakers, 3-2.
The Mastodons
won the match by the scores of 28-30, 31-29, 30-27, 25-30,
and 17-15.
The hot hitting
Lakers (.344) featured four players in double-figure kills,
with outside hitter Dave Schmidl leading the way with 29 kills.
Junior middle
hitter Serdar Sikca was the only other Mastodon in double digits
with ten kills. Sikca also registered nine block assists. The
'Dons, as a team, were credited with 17 total team blocks in
the match.
The Lakers
(7-7, 4-7 MIVA) are much improved under new head coach Ryan
Patton.
IPFW (8-7,
6-4 MIVA) rolls out of the frying pan, and into the fire, tomorrow
night. The Mastodons will head to State College to face non-conference
foe #4 Penn State. The Nittany Lions have beaten the 'Dons
twice this season. Game time at the Bryce Jordan Center is
