Fort Wayne, IN- IPFW head men’s volleyball coach Arnie Ball reached a coaching milestone on Saturday night at the Hilliard Gates Sports Center. Ball, in his 25th year with the Mastodons, won his 400th career match, as IPFW beat the University of Findlay, 3-1 in a conference match.

The Mastodons were winners by the scores of 30-19, 30-24, 22-30, and 30-21.

The win snapped a three-game losing streak and improved IPFW’s record to 2-3 (1-1, MIVA).

The Mastodons were led by junior middle hitter Serdar Sikca (Istanbul, Turkey) with 16 kills. The “Big Turk” recorded a hitting percentage of .842 in the match, which fell just a few points shy of the school’s all-time record held by assistant coach Ryan Perrotte. Perrotte’s mark of .850 came against Ohio State in 1999.

2004 First-Team All-American Matt Zbyszewski (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) had 15 kills, three aces, a block solo, and four block assists for a team-high 21 points.

Freshman Josh Stewart (St. Mary’s, Ontario, Canada) recorded seven block assists as IPFW out-blocked the Oilers 10-7 in the match.

Findlay (5-3, 0-2, MIVA) was led by C.J. Macias with a match-high 26 kills.

Arnie Ball, who has taken IPFW to four Final Four’s in his career, is currently 4th on the NCAA’s All-Time Wins List.

IPFW returns to action on Wednesday, February 2nd, traveling to Findlay, Ohio, to take on the same Oilers. Match time is 7pm.
