Volleydons Open 2005 Season in Canada

Toronto, Canada-The 26th annual Killer Instinct Excalibur Volleyball Classic begins at York University's Tait McKenzie Centre on Friday, January 7, kicking off the second half of the men's volleyball season in Canada, but opening up the exhibition season for the IPFW Mastodons.

IPFW will be looking to improve on last season's 14-12 (12-4-MIVA) record, and return NCAA First-Team All-American Matt Zbyszewski (Toronto, Ontario, Canada).

The eight-team tournament boasts five of the top six teams from Ontario University Athletics (OUA), the number two and three teams from the Quebec Student Sports Federation (QSSF), as well as the IPFW Mastodons of the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA), who finished tied for second in the Midwest Intercollegiate Volleyball Association's regular season in 2004.

The Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) No. 8 York Lions (10-0, 1st in OUA) open the tournament against the Queen's Golden Gaels (6-4, tied for 5th in OUA). The Lions are the only undefeated team in the OUA.

The tournament begins at 1:00 pm Friday, January 7 and runs through to Sunday, January 9 with the Championship final set for 3:00 pm. Tournament passes can be purchased on site.

IPFW will begin regular season play on Saturday, January 15, 2005, hosting Juniata (PA) College in a 7pm match at the Hilliard Gates Sports Center.
