Open 2005 Season in Canada
Toronto,
Canada-The 26th annual Killer Instinct Excalibur Volleyball
Classic begins
at York University's Tait McKenzie Centre on Friday, January
7, kicking off the second half of the men's volleyball season
in Canada, but opening up the exhibition season for the IPFW
Mastodons.
IPFW will
be looking to improve on last season's 14-12 (12-4-MIVA) record,
and return NCAA First-Team All-American Matt Zbyszewski (Toronto,
Ontario, Canada).
The eight-team
tournament boasts five of the top six teams from Ontario University
Athletics (OUA), the number two and three
teams from the Quebec Student Sports Federation (QSSF), as well
as the IPFW Mastodons of the National Collegiate
Athletics Association (NCAA), who finished tied for second in the
Midwest Intercollegiate Volleyball Association's regular season
in 2004.
The Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) No. 8 York Lions (10-0,
1st in OUA) open the tournament against the Queen's Golden Gaels
(6-4, tied for 5th in OUA). The Lions are the only undefeated
team in the OUA.
The tournament begins at 1:00 pm Friday, January 7 and runs
through to Sunday, January 9 with the Championship final set
for 3:00 pm. Tournament passes can be purchased on site.
IPFW will
begin regular season play on Saturday, January 15, 2005, hosting
Juniata (PA) College in a 7pm match at the Hilliard Gates Sports
Center. 26th Annual
