Split Weekend Conference Action
Fort
Wayne, IN-
The IPFW men's volleyball team returned to conference action,
after playing non-conference matches for more than two weeks.
The 'Dons dropped a five set heartbreaker at Loyola Chicago, but
came back this afternoon to blast Clarke College 3-0.
IPFW gave
the top team in the MIVA everything they wanted on Friday night
in Chicago. After splitting the first four games of the match
30-26, 22-30, 30-17, and 31-33, it was the Ramblers taking the
fifth game by the score of 15-11.
Senior opposite
Matt Zbyszewski led all scorers with a match
high 36 kills. He also had 14 digs, 2 service aces, and 2 block
assists. The 36 kills is a career high for the Zbyszewski.
His previous high was 34, set against the same Ramblers last season.
It was also a career high for attempts in a match. Matty took
79 swings, five more than his previous high.
But, it was
the three-headed monster of Scott Greene (32 kills), Chris Kozlarek
(20 kills), and Corey Kloos (16 kills) that kept IPFW from handing
LUC it's first MIVA loss of the year. The Ramblers are currently
12-0.
Junior middle
hitter Serdar Sikca was the only other Mastodon
in double-figures with 14 kills.
In Saturday's
match, it took IPFW only an hour and fifteen minutes to dispatch
of Clarke College.
IPFW won by
the scores of 30-23, 30-25, and 30-21. Zbyszewski registered his
second double-double of the weekend with 12 kills and 10 digs.
He also had six service aces, a solo block, and four block assists.
With the weekend
split, IPFW's record stands at 9-13, 6-6 in the MIVA.
The 'Dons
host Quincy (4/8) and Ball State (4/9) at the Gates Center. Game
time for both matches is 7pm.
