Zbyszewski name First Team “All-American”

Honolulu, HI-IPFW men’s volleyball sensation Matt Zbyszewski has been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-American First Team.

Zbyszewski, a 6-4 senior (junior eligibility) outside hitter, was also selected as the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Player-of-the-year.

He led the nation with 6.65 points per game and 5.57 kills per game. He hit .327 during the season while ranking third nationally in aces per game at 0.54.

Zbyszewski (Toronto, ON, Canada) reached the 30 kill mark four times in the 2004 season, and was held under the 20 kill mark in just 10 of IPFW’s 24 matches. He is also nationally ranked in blocks per game (1.00) and digs per game (1.92).

Zbyszewski joins Hector Soto (1999, 2000) and Lloy Ball (1992, 1994) as IPFW First Team All-Americans. He will also be named All-American in the upcoming issue of Volleyball Magazine.

Junior setter Carlos Moreno of Brigham Young University was named the 2004 AVCA Player of the year.

The awards were announced last night (5/5) at the NCAA Men’s Volleyball National Championship Banquet in Honolulu, Hawaii.
