Hold off Ramblers
Fort
Wayne, IN- The IPFW men’s volleyball team got a stiff
test from Loyola University-Chicago on Saturday night at the Gates
Center, but Arnie’s Army turned back the attack of the Ramblers
in five tough sets, 3-2.
The Mastodons
won by the scores of 30-26, 23-30, 26-30, 30-25,
and 15-12.
After the Ramblers took a 2-1 lead, senior outside hitter Matt
Zbyszewski put IPFW on his back and led them to wins in the 4th
and 5th. Zbyszewski finished the night with 34 kills, and 13
digs for 34.5 points.
As usual, the MIVA’s leading block wall of Serdar
Sikca, Mike
Daiga, and Dennis Santiago did the job. Sikca had one solo and
ten block assists. He also had nine kills.
Daiga and Santiago each registered four block assists, as did
outside hitter Mitch Dreisbach, who put down nine balls for the
second night in a row. Santiago recorded 58 assists.
Senior libero Isaac
White got double-figure dig numbers for
the second night with 11, and freshman Cristiano Moriera also
chipped in 11 kills.
Loyola-Chicago got a great game from Mike Alesch who registered
a double-double with 31 kills and ten digs.
With the win, IPFW improves to 9-2 overall, and 7-1 in the conference.
LUC falls to 9-6, 5-3 MIVA.
The Mastodons will now hit the road for their next six matches,
before returning to the Gates Center to host Mercyhurst College
on March 27th.
