Cardinals
Hand IPFW First MIVA Loss
Fort
Wayne, IN- A close first game turned into a dominating
performance for #9 Ball State University, Friday night, before
1,811 fans at the Gates Center.
The Cardinals used a quick hitting attack to sweep IPFW 35-30,
30-20, and 30-22 in MIVA action.
After that tight first set, Ball State (9-2, 3-0 MIVA) began
using a quick set to negate the blocking strength of the Mastodons.
Zoran Grabovac and Nick Meyer found the hitting easier and began
to rack up the kills. Each finished with 14 in the match.
IPFW’s go-to guy, once again, was senior right-side Matt
Zbyszewski (Toronto, ON, Canada). Zbyszewski single handedly tried to put
the ‘Dons on his back in the third game, where he registered
10 kills. He finished the match with 24 kills and 9 digs (24.5
pts).
Middle hitter Serdar
Sikca (Istanbul, Turkey) was the only other
Mastodon with double figure points. He recorded 10.5 on seven
kills and six total blocks.
With the loss, #10 IPFW falls to 6-2, and more importantly,
4-1 in the conference. They will have a chance to get back on
the winning track Saturday night (2/21), hosting the Findlay
Oilers at 7pm.
