Volleydons Make Short Work of Clarke

Fort Wayne, IN- It took the IPFW men’s volleyball team just over an hour to dispatch of winless Clarke University in MIVA action Friday night at the Gates Center. IPFW blitzed the Crusaders in three straight.

Emptying his bench, Head Coach Arnie Ball saw his team roll by the scores of 30-18, 30-17, and 30-15.

A number of ‘Dons put in strong hitting nights. Juniors Dennis Santiago (S/Bayamon, Puerto Rico) and Mitch Dreisbach (OH/Mishawaka, IN) hit an identical .625 (6K/1E/8A).

Junior middle Serdar Sikca (Istanbul, Turkey) and freshman Christiano Moriera (Belo Horizante, Brazil) were each around .500. Sikca hit .500 (6K/1E/10A) while Moriera led the ‘Dons with nine kills on the night, and finished, slugging .533.

As always, the defensive game was strong with Arnie’s Army registering three solos, and 28 blocking assists. Santiago and Mike Daiga (So/MH/Columbus, OH) each had six.

With the win, the Mastodons improve to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in league play. Clarke falls to 1-7, 0-6.

The troops will have little time to savor this one. They host Lewis College tomorrow night (2/14) at the Gates Center. Game time is 7pm.
