Mastodons
Bounce Back With Win Over Eagles
Gainesville,
FL - IPFW bounced back after Friday night's
loss to #7 Florida to defeat the Eagles of Eastern Michigan
in three games (30-24, 30-26, 30-28) at the Campus USA
Credit Union Classic. This is the first time that IPFW has
defeated the Eagles.
Double-doubles
were on the menu this afternoon as three Mastodons posted
the numbers. Fabiana Souza had 17 kills
and 14 digs and Cynara Martins had 10
kills and 14 digs. Erika Leitzke recorded
her double-double with 47 assists and 13 digs.
Claire
Jackson was also in double figures in kills
with 10 and libero Peachy Jankowski dug
up 11 balls. Nicole Howell had the team
high in digs with 15.
Blocking
was also on Souza's mind as she put back 5 assists. Jessica
Miller was a close second with three block assists.
For EMU,
Bethany Piccolini had 11 kills while Kate Sulewski had
32 assists. Libero Ashley Cudney dug up 23 balls.
Jackson
was named to the All-Tournament Team along with Florida's
Jane Collymore (MVP), Marcie Hampton, and Angie McGinnis,
Cal Irvine's Whitney Pavlik and Amanda Vasquez and Piccolini
from Eastern Michigan.
The
ladies next home match is Tuesday September 20
versus Ball State
starting at 7:00 pm. September 23 and 24 is the
IPFW Volleyball Invitational sponsored by U.S.
Cellular starting at 4:00 pm. The Big Red of
Cornell and Belmont Bruins will be in town for the three
match
invite.
