IPFW
Undefeated Going Into Final Day of Tournament
Greeley,
CO -
The IPFW Women's Volleyball team made a clean sweep of Friday, defeating Texas
A&M Corpus Christi and Northern Colorado. The Mastodons
will now face South Dakota State at 12:30 pm tomorrow
before heading to their final match in the evening.
IPFW
v. Texas A&M Corpus Christi
In the
early match the Dons faced the Islanders of Texas A&M Corpus
Christi at the Independent Championship. IPFW took off
early and never looked back, defeating the Islanders in
straight games, 30-13, 30-19, 30-24.
Fabiana
Souza led
the way with 16 kills and hit a .424 for the afternoon.
She also had three service aces and two block assists
in the win.
Jessica
Miller had
a career afternoon against the Islanders. Miller knocked
down 14 kills (career high) and almost broke her hitting
percentage record with a .542 after going 14-1-24. Miller
also matched Souza's block assists with two.
Erika
Leitzke was
the only Mastodon with a double-double. She put up 27
assists and had 10 digs for the afternoon.
Libero Peachy
Jankowski dug up 15 balls in the three game
win.
Jessica
Dominiak put
up 9 assists while breaking three of her career records.
As a setter,
the assists weren't record breaking, but the attack
skills were. Dominiak went 4-1-7 hitting a .429. She broke
her own career highs in kills, attempts and hitting percentage.
IPFW
v. Northern Colorado
The Mastodons
once again started off well, taking the first two games
of their third match in the championship. Game three went
to the Bears of Northern Colorado, but the Mastodons fired
back, taking game four. IPFW won in four, 30-23, 30-23,
20-30, 30-26. IPFW broke Northern Colorado's 35 game home
win streak with the win. It was also the Dons first win
over UNC.
Souza
led again, coming close to her career numbers, but matched
her previous season high of 26 kills this evening. Souza
completed her double-double of the evening with 14 digs.
She also added three block assists for the night.
Amanda
Pfister knocked
down 11 kills and put up four block assists for the evening.
Miller continued to shine posting 10 kills and hitting
.500, she had no errors for the match. She also put up
three block assists.
Leitzke
just missed the double-double, posting 55 assists and nine
digs.
Overall
the Dons hitting got better throughout the match and they
finished with a .220. Northern Colorado finished with nine
team blocks.
For UNC,
three Bears were in double figure kills, Amanda Wiggins
(16), Lizzy Rhoads (13), and Lenay Goble (10). Corrinne
Chapin and Lauren Carter each put up 23 assists.
The Mastodons
will now face South Dakota State in the morning round with
an approximate start time of 12:30 pm. Then IPFW could
either play in the third place match or championship match
that evening.
