Mastodons
take Hoosiers to the Brink
But, Fall in Five
Bloomington,
IN -Close games, blowouts, big leads lost, and when
it came down to the end, it was a final five point sprint
to the finish. The winner of that sprint was Indiana, holding
off IPFW in five games 30-32, 30-16, 24-30, 30-22, and 15-11.
The Hoosiers
and Mastodons absolutely got after it tonight in Bloomington.
For the match, IU out hit IPFW .376 to .238, including a .613
mark in game two which they ran and hid to a 14 point margin.
IPFW (5-3)
was more than up to the challenge in the 3rd game, taking
a 12 point lead, and coasting to the 30-24 win.
Game five
was a mirror image of the entire match. IPFW grabbed a two
point lead at 6-4, but IU ran off four straight points to
take an 8-6 lead. The match was tied at 10, setting up a run
to the finish, which IU (6-2) was able to complete.
For the
match, there were some outstanding hitting stats put up. The
Hoosiers' Christina Archibald hit the 30 kill mark to go along
with 16 digs for a double double.
Katie
Pollom added 28 kills and four block assists.
IPFW was
led by junior outside hitter Fabiana Souza
with 29 kills and 9 digs. Three other 'Dons registered double-figure
kills, Cynara Martins and Nicole
Howell each had 13 and Lindsay Brammer
put down eleven.
Martins
and Howell had 18 and 13 digs respectively for their double-doubles.
IPFW will
regroup and travel to Miami, OH this weekend to participate
in the Miami Invitational. The tournament features the 'Dons
and RedHawks, along with Middle Tennessee State and #22 Georgia
Tech.
