Billingy's
Big Night helps Marshall past IPFW
Fort
Wayne, IN-Freshman outside hitter Kelly-Anne Billingy
recorded 31 kills, helping Marshall University to a 3-1 win
over
IPFW at the Hilliard Gates Sports Center on Saturday
night.
The Thundering Herd (11-6) took the match by the scores
of 30-21, 29-31, 30-24, and 30-25.
Billingy, at 6-3, hit an impressive .381 to go along with
14 kills. She was joined in the double-double category by
another freshman, Stephanie Cahill with 15 kills and 18 digs.
Three Mastodons registered double-double nights. Freshman
Cynara Martins (OH/Belo Horizonte, Brazil) had 13 kills and
14 digs, sophomore outside hitter Nicole Howell (Fort Wayne,
IN) had 13 kills and 12 digs, and after a slow start, junior
outside hitter Fabiana Souza (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) picked
it up late with 11 kills and 10 digs.
Freshman libero Peachy
Jankowski (Fraser, MI) hit double
digits in digs with 16, as did senior outside hitter Lindsay
Brammer (Yorktown, IN) in kills with ten.
The Thundering Herd out-hit IPFW .277 to .170 in the match.
With the loss, IPFW falls to 12-7 on the season. They will
return to action Thursday night (10/14), traveling to Ball
State to take on the Cardinals at 7pm. They return home on
Saturday (10/16) to host Oakland University on Saturday night,
at 7pm and Central Michigan on Sunday (10/17), at 3pm.
