Eagles
Extend Streak with Sweep of IPFW
Ypsilanti,
MI-The Eastern Michigan Eagles extended their winning
streak to six, and snapped IPFW's winning streak at four,
with a 3-0 sweep of the Mastodons on Tuesday night at the
EMU Convocation Center.
EMU (10-6)
easily won games one and two 30-19 and 30-23, but had to battle
to put the 'Dons away in the third 31-29.
Junior
middle hitter Fabiana Souza, who ranks 18th
in the Nation in kills per game (5.12), had a bit of an off
night. She did register a double-double with 13 kills and
10 digs, but hit only .041.
The Mastodons
as a whole did not swing it well on the night, finishing with
a hitting percentage of .026.
Freshman
outside hitter Cynara Martins continued her
solid play for IPFW with an 11 kill, 16 dig match.
The battle
was won by the Eagles on the defensive side, with EMU out-digging
IPFW 77-60, and out-blocking the Mastodons 11-7.
Junior
Bethany Piccolini paced the Eagles with 16 kills and three
blocks.
The Mastodons
(11-6) will get a chance to get back in the win column quickly.
They host the Bowling Green State University Falcons tomorrow
night, at 7pm, at the Gates Center.
