Mastodons
Finish Day Two 2-0, Overall 3-1 in the Championship
Orem,
Utah – Day two at the LaQuinta Independent Women’s
Volleyball Championship had the Mastodons with two wins
over host Utah Valley State and Texas A&M Corpus
Christi. In their first match the Dons beat the Islanders
of TAMUCC, 3-0. In their second match, the Dons defeated
the Wolverines of Utah Valley State, 3-1.
Game
3: Texas A&M Corpus Christi
The Mastodons had no problem with the Islanders Friday evening.
The Dons downed TAMUCC 30-18, 30-20, 30-19.
Senior Lindsay
Brammer led the Dons with 11 kills for the
match. She was followed by junior Fabiana Souza with eight.
On the defensive side, sophomore Nicole
Howell and freshman
Peachy Jankowski each recorded 10 digs. Senior Lindi
Bankowski had 29 assists.
Sophomore Claire
Jackson recorded one block solo and 4 assists
to go along with her seven kills for the match. Souza had
four block assists.
The Dons hit .229 for the match and recorded a .270 for
game one.
Game 4: Utah Valley State
Utah Valley State proved to be better competition for the
Dons in their later match. The Dons downed the Wolverines
30-20, 27-30, 30-21, 30-24.
Junior Fabiana
Souza recorded a double double with 29 kills
and 18 digs. Sophomore Amanda Pfister followed Souza with
13 kills.
Sophomore Nicole
Howell led in the digging area with 19.
Six players recorded double digit digs for the match. Senior
Lindi Bankowski recorded 52 assists.
Sophmore Claire
Jackson was blocking away as she recorded
one solo and seven assists. Freshman Cynara Martins was right
there with Jackson as she recorded two solos and four assists.
The Dons
next match is tonight at 5:00 p.m. MST against South Dakota
State and then at 7:00 p.m. against Texas Pan American.
