Women's
Volleyball Ends Spring Season with 11-2 Mark
Bowling
Green, OH -
The IPFW Women's Volleyball Team competed at Bowling Green's
Spring Invitational last weekend and came away with another
three wins to end its non-traditional season with a record
of 11-2.
The Mastodons
defeated Akron in the deciding game and Duquesne in straight
games. The Dons final match
of the day was against Cincinnati when IPFW came back
from a 7-12 deficit in the deciding game to win 15-13.
"When we got the ball back to make it 8-12, Nicole
Howell went back and ripped four-straight jump serves forcing
them to give us several free balls and she had an ace," said
Coach Hartley Hutton. "Nicole is often the player on
our side who is the un-sung hero - she's so steady and always
comes to play."
IPFW's only losses this spring were to Ball State and Kentucky,
both in the deciding games.
"It was an exceptional spring for our program. Claire
Jackson and Amanda Pfister continue to gain confidence and
experience while Erika Leitzke stepped into the setting position
making it was a smooth transition for our team," said
Hartley Hutton.
The Dons
open their 2005 season at home on August 27 against DePaul.
They return Independent Offensive Player of the Year
Fabiana Souza for her senior season. Souza
ranked 15th in the nation in kills per game (5.18) last
year. Other returning
starters included outside hitters Cynara Martins and
Howell, middle blocker Jackson, and libero Peachy
Jankowski.
