Volleyball
Drops First Match at Wright State Tournament
Dayton,
OH- The IPFW women’s volleyball team came out swinging
against Dayton, in the first round of the Wright State Raider
Challenge Friday night in Dayton, Ohio, but the Flyers rebounded
to top the ‘Dons 3-1.
The Mastodons (8-4) used a .314 hitting percentage in the
first game to get past Dayton 32-30.
However, Dayton (9-3) would hold the Mastodons to a .041 hitting
mark the rest of the way, taking the final three games 30-27,
30-17, and 30-25.
Fabiana
Souza (So/MB/Belo Horizonte, Brazil) registered a
double-double with 21 kills and 16 digs.
Janelle
Pollard (Jr/OH/Fort Wayne) and Freshman Nicole
Howell (OH/Fort Wayne, IN) each added 10 kills.
The Mastodons had a good defensive night also with seniors
Sarah Leffers (15), Kirsta Solberg (14), and Nicole
Ray (13)
all adding double figure digs.
IPFW will play two matches on Saturday (9/20). The ‘Dons face
host Wright State at 11am and then take on Akron at 4:30pm.
