Volleyball
Has Twice the Fun in Texas
Corpus
Christi, TX –The IPFW women's volleyball team enjoyed
their accommodations at the Holiday Inn-Emerald Beach Roundup,
hosted by Texas A&M Corpus Christi. The Mastodons didn't
give up a game, beating Alcorn State and host TAMUCC 3-0 on
Saturday.
In their
first match, the 'Dons topped Alcorn 30-11, 30-15,
and 30-21.
Three
Mastodons hit for double figures in kills, sophomore Fabiana
Souza (13), senior Kirsta Solberg
(11) and freshman Amanda Pfister (10). Their
hitting percentages were impressive as well, with Pfister
leading the way at .643, Solberg at .632, and Souza with a
.421.
Solberg
also blasted six service aces.
In the
second match, IPFW topped TAMUCC by the scores of 30-26,
30-23, and 30-17.
Souza
registered her 18th double-double of the season with 13 kills
and ten digs.
Freshman
Nicole Howell was the only other 'Don with
double digit kills (13).
Junior
setter Lindi Bankowski was one dig shy of
a double-double with 38 assists and nine digs.
IPFW out-hit
the Islanders .322 to .085 in the match.
With the
wins, the Mastodons move back to three games over .500 at
12-9 and continue their Texas trip with a match tomorrow at
the University of Texas Pan-American at 1pm.
