Volleyball
Runs Winning Streak to Eight
Fort
Wayne, IN- After getting off to a slow start in game
one, the IPFW women’s volleyball team got on track and stopped
the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay by the final of 3-1.
The Mastodons won by game scores of 26-30, 30-24, 30-25,
and 30-27.
The ‘Dons got a number of outstanding performances in the
match. Sophomore Fabiana Souza (MH/Belo Horizante, Brazil)
registered a double-double with a match-high 21 kills and
15 digs.
Junior setter Lindi
Bankowski (Temperance, MI) had 20 digs
to go along with her 52 assists.
Seniors
Nicole Ray (L/Fort Wayne, IN) Kirsta
Solberg (OH/Huron, OH) and
Sarah Leffers (L-DS/Fort Wayne, IN) had 23,
18, and 13 digs respectively in a defensive effort that produced
104 total digs in the match.
On the offensive side, junior Janelle
Pollard (OH/Fort Wayne,
IN) and freshman Amanda Pfister (OH/Auburn, IN) had 12 and
11 kills each, and junior middle blocker Lindsay
Brammer (Yorktown, IN) stole the show in Game 4 with a number of
timely kills and blocks. She finished the match with seven
and four.
Senior outside hitter Janelle Tomlinson led the Phoenix
(18-7) with 16 kills and 25 digs.
The win was the eighth straight for IPFW. It is a streak
that began back on 10/7 with a 3-1 win at Chicago State.
The Mastodons will be back in action on Wednesday night
(11/5), hosting Oakland University at the Gates Center. The
two teams met back on October 18th in Rochester, Michigan,
with the ‘Dons winning that match 3-0. Match time is 7pm.
