Hartley’s
Angels First Strike - CMU Tournament
(Fort
Wayne, IN) - IPFW Women’s Volleyball team opens up the
2003 season on the road this weekend. The Mastodons compete
in the Central Michigan “Super 8 Classic” which will also feature
University of Illinois-Chicago and University of Wisconsin-Green
Bay.
Kelley
Hartley is going into her fifth season as the IPFW
head coach, third year at the Division I level. In her first
two years, IPFW was just shy of meeting the .500 mark.
The Mastodons’ will be led by seniors Kirsta
Solberg (OH/Huron,
OH), Sarah Leffers (L/Fort Wayne) and Nicole
Ray (DS/Fort Wayne)
along with third year starting setter, junior Lindi
Bankowski (S/Temperance, MI). Last year’s freshman standout Fabiana
Souza (OH/Belo Horizonte, Brazil) returns with one year’s experience
under her belt.
On Friday, IPFW takes on Illinois-Chicago at 4 p.m. The Mastodons
will than play on Saturday Central Michigan at 1 p.m. and Wisconsin-Green
Bay at 4 p.m.
This will be the first meeting between IPFW and Central Michigan.
In the last two years, the Mastodons have taken 1-3 over with
Wisconsin-Green Bay. Illinois-Chicago leads the overall series
1-0 against IPFW.
