Fort Wayne , IN - The IPFW Women's Basketball team gave the crowd a great taste of what IPFW basketball is going to be like this year, better and stronger. The Mastodons only gave up the lead a few times in the first seven minutes before taking over and dominating the Pumas of St. Joseph's College, 71-55 in their first exhibition game.

IPFW and St. Joseph's went back and forth during the first seven minutes before IPFW started to build a strong lead. At half the Dons were up 33-22 and they kept that momentum going in the second finishing with a 16 point lead.

Kelly Boyd stepped up offensively, scoring a game high for the Mastodons of 12 points in 21 minutes. Boyd was 6 of 7 from the field.

Ashley Johnson was another Mastodon in double digits. She scored 11 points and also tacked on five assists, two steals and five boards in the exhibition game.

Natalie Roberts also stepped up from last year and took down three offensive and eight defensive boards for the Mastodons.

Overall the Mastodons were 45.9% (28-61) from the field and 35.7% (5-14) from beyond the arc. At the charity stripe IPFW hit 50% of their shots. The Mastodons surpassed the Pumas in all categories taking down 50 total rebounds, 18 assists, 11 steals and six blocks in their exhibition game.

For the Pumas, Allison Hughes scored a game high 14 points and was followed by Patience Meyer and Rachel Theodore with 11 points each. Defensively, Michelle Bova brought down 10 boards and Hughes had three steals.
