IPFW Places Two on All-Independent Second Team

Fargo, ND - Johnna Lewis-Carlisle and Ashley Johnson were named to the Division I All-Independent Second Team as voted on by head coaches and sports information directors.

Junior Guard Ashley Johnson

A 5'8" junior guard, Johnson averaged 14.4 ppg and 5.8 rpg for the Mastodons this year.

Johnson finished her junior year second on the team in points scored (402) and points per game behind Lewis-Carlisle. She led the team in rebounds with 163, rebounds per game and free throws made, after connecting for 144 of 182 attempts (79.1%).

Johnson broke a school single game record against North Dakota State on February 26th when she connected on 22 of 23 free throws. The previous record was set 15 seasons ago by IPFW's most decorated women's basketball player, Lisa Miller. Miller had hit 20 of 24 free throws against Wayne State. Miller still holds the record for free throw attempts with 24.

Johnson started all 28 games this season for the Mastodons and was the team leader on the court. She not only placed herself in the record books for her single game record, but she is eighth in the 'Dons All-Time records for free throw percentage. Her career percentage is 76.9%. She holds the #4 spot in free throws made with 244 made in three years.

Johnson averaged 3.3 assists/game and 1.6 steals per game and started all of the 'Dons games this season. She connected for double digit points in 22 games and in three games for rebounding. Johnson was named Independent Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 20th.

This is the first time that Johnson has been named to the All-Independent team. She was previously nominated her sophomore year for the All-Independent team and received honorable mention.

Sophomore Guard Johnna Lewis-Carlisle

Lewis-Carlisle, a 5'6" sophomore guard, averaged 14.7 ppg and 3.6 rpg in her second season with the Mastodons.

Lewis-Carlisle led the 'Dons in points scored with 411. She also led the team in made three pointers with 61 and overall made field goals with 149. Lewis-Carlisle pulled down 100 rebounds for the season, almost doubling her previous numbers.

Lewis-Carlisle hit double digits in points during 22 of the 'Dons 28 games this season. She connected for a season high 26 points against Utah Valley State (3/1).

Lewis-Carlisle set career bests in three point shots made (7 at Iowa State, 12/30), free throws made (7 vs. Utah Valley State, 3/1), and rebounds (7 at Longwood, 1/14). She was perfect at the charity stripe on 10 different occasions this year.

Lewis-Carlisle moved into the moves into the 7th spot on the 'Dons All-Time lists with a total of 104 made threes after posting 61 this season. She was named Independent Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 27th.

This is the second time that Lewis-Carlisle has been voted onto an All-Independent team. Last year she was named Newcomer of the Year and a member of the All-Newcomer team. She received honorable mention last year for the All-Independent team.

The Mastodons finished the 2005-06 season 7-21 after going 5-1 during their last six games of the season.
