Mastodons Rout Wolverines
Fort Wayne , IN - IPFW finished with four in double digits, defeating fellow Independent Utah Valley State 84-60 at the Memorial Coliseum on Wednesday evening. With this win, the 'Dons have won four out of their last five games with one final game left on Friday.
The Mastodons opened up a six point lead in the first at the 15:21 mark and never looked back from there. They went on an 8-3 run in the next minute to go up by eleven, 19-8. The Wolverines started to eat away at IPFW's lead and tied the game up for the final time in the first at the 2:08 mark at 32 points. From there the 'Dons went on a 4-0 run to finish out the first with a four point lead.
IPFW's smallest lead in the second came at the 18:12 mark when Utah Valley State brought it to within two. IPFW ran with it from there, going on a 13-5 run to take their lead to ten at 13:46. With under ten minutes left in the game, the 'Dons held a commanding lead and ran the floor to the end. They went on to defeat the Wolverines by 24 with a final score of 84-60.
Johnna Lewis-Carlisle led all scorers with 26 points. She was 3 of 9 from the arc and 5 of 9 from the paint. Lewis-Carlisle pulled down six boards and was perfect at the stripe (7-7).
Ashley Johnson posted 20 points and led the 'Dons in boards with eight. Tina Moen put 13 points on the board and had three steals while Juliane Höhne had 11 points.
For Utah Valley State, Robyn Fairbanks put up 11 points and Sandy Marvin and Miriam Palkki each had ten. Defensively, Palkki had eight boards and Kaydee Allred had seven.
The Mastodons final game of the season is this Friday against the Texas A&M Corpus Christi Islanders at the Gates Sports Center. Game time is 8 pm. The 'Dons (6-21) have gone 4-1 in their last five games.
