Jackrabbits Speed Past Mastodons in Second
Brookings, SD - The Mastodons kept in close in the first, the Dons were only down by seven. In the second half the Jackrabbits of South Dakota State sped up their offense and defeated IPFW, 74-53.
The Mastodons kept in close in the first, they were only down by seven at the close. Although the Dons out blocked the Jackrabbits, fouls were the problem of the day for IPFW. IPFW recorded 22 fouls to SDSU's 10.
Johnna Lewis-Carlisle led the Dons offensively with 17 points in just 26 minutes. She was 50% from the field, going 8 of 16. Hilary O'Connell was the only other Don in double figures with 14 points. O'Connell was also 50% from the field and had three steals for the night.
Kelly Boyd posted two career records against SDSU. Boyd hit seven boards and seven blocks, both were career records. She also had four points and a steal for the evening.
The Jackrabbits were led by Heather Sieler with 18 points. She was followed by Megan Vogel with 16 points and Andrea Verdegan with 11. Defensively, Jennifer Warkenthien had 12 boards.
IPFW will now head to North Dakota State on Saturday (1/21). Their next home game is Wednesday January 25 against Butler University. Game time is 7 pm at the Gates Center.
