Mastodons Can't Get Past Lancers
Farmville, VA - The Lancers of Longwood proved to be tough competition Saturday afternoon. Although two set career records, the ladies couldn't get past the Lancers, falling 86-69.
The Mastodons matched up well in the first half to the Lancers. They were 50% from the field and 75% from the charity stripe. At intermission the game was tied up at 37.
Longwood made a run for it in the second and the Dons couldn't get back. They were outscored 49-32.
Ashley Johnson led the Dons hit her second consecutive game with 20+ at Longwood. Johnson connected for 24, a career best. She also hit a team high seven boards and had four steals.
Kelly Boyd continued her scoring ways, breaking her career record set just a few games before by hitting 14 points. Overall she was 6 of 9 from the field and had two blocks.
Johnna Lewis-Carlisle matched Johnson's boards with seven. Nanyamka Moore recorded three steals for the afternoon.
The Lancers were led by Anna Steg with 22 points. Three other Lancers hit double digits, Abbey Freese (17 pts), Amber Mason (15 pts) and Ashley Mason (14 pts.). Amber Mason led Longwood in rebounds with nine.
IPFW will head to the Dakotas next weekend with games at South Dakota State on Thursday (1/19) and North Dakota State on Saturday (1/21). Their next home game is Wednesday January 25 against Butler University. Game time is 7 pm at the Gates Center.
