Mastodons Fight Hard, Fall in Final Second to Radford

Fort Wayne, IN - A last second shot by Radford ended the Mastodons run at a win Saturday night at the Gates Center. In the last second of overtime Radford put up a shot to take the lead and the win, 79-77.

The Mastodons played tough against the Highlanders of Radford University, coming back from a ten point deficit in the first. IPFW held the lead the entire second half until the very end when Radford rallied and tied the game up, sending it to overtime.

In overtime the Mastodons still held on strong, holding a four point lead with just over a minute to go. Radford came back to tie the game with 15 seconds left before Corrie Fertitta hit the final shot at the end to give Radford the win.

Johnna Lewis-Carlisle extended her streak to four games with 20+ points as she had 22 points tonight. Lewis-Carlisle also put up an assist and two steals.

Ashley Johnson fought hard all night long and turned in 17 points a personal season best. Johnson hit 9 of 11 from the charity stripe and made a double-double with 11 boards. She put up five assists and a steal for the night.

Kelly Boyd had a career night against the Highlanders. Boyd was perfect going 5-5 from the field and 3-3 at the charity stripe in only 17 minutes of play. She hit a career high 13 points, blasting her previous career high of 8 points right out of the books.

The Highlanders recorded one double-double and two others in double figures. Sarah Stephens led the way with 23 points with Shavon Earp close behind with 20. Corrie Fertitta hit her double-double with 11 boards and 17 points for the night.

Overall the Mastodons were only 46.6% from the field and 79.2% from the charity stripe. IPFW out-rebounded Radford 46 to 32

The Mastodons will start a four game road trip with Valparaiso on Thursday (1/12). They will then travel to Longwood (1/14) before heading to South Dakota State (1/19) and North Dakota State (1/21). Their next home game is Wednesday January 25 against Butler University. Game time is 7 pm at the Gates Center.
