Johnson Named Independent Player of the Week
Five Named to Independent All-Academic Team
Fort Wayne , IN - Ashley Johnson was named the Independent Player of the Week for the week of February 20th as voted on by Independent sports information directors. Five other Mastodons were also named to the All-Independent Academic Team as well.
 Johnson broke a school single game record in the 'Dons win over North Dakota State on the 26th. Johnson was 22 of 23 from the free throw line
to take over the top spot for free throws made. The previous record had
stood for 15 years and was held by All-American Lisa Miller, IPFW's most
decorated women's basketball player. In the game against NDSU, Johnson
had 32 points and six boards.
In the Mastodons other Independent game,
Johnson recorded 16 points, four assists and a steal in their loss to
South Dakota State.
For the week, Johnson averaged 18.7 points and 5.0
rebounds. She was 28-of-29 from the line (.966) and dished out 12 assists, a block and two steals. IPFW went 2-1 for the week with wins
over Wayne State and North Dakota State and the loss to South Dakota State.
Kelly Boyd, Jenny Green, Juliane Höhne, Hilary O'Connell and Pavla Pletková were named to the All-Academic Team. Green is a two-time All-Academic team member. The Division I Independent Women’s Basketball All-Academic team was selected by sports information directors at member institutions.
Nominations from each school were accepted for student-athletes who had at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA, had reached at least a sophomore athletic standing and were a starter or key reserve for the team.
The cumulative GPA of the All-Academic team is a 3.62.
