Wayne State No Match for IPFW

Fort Wayne , IN - IPFW took off running and never looked back Tuesday night at the Gates Center against Wayne State. The Mastodons defeated the Warriors 80-51.

The Warriors saw their only lead in the first minute of the game as the 'Dons then took off on a 25-8 run to put Wayne State down by 14 with 10 minutes left in the first. The Mastodons would finish out the half with a 12 point lead, 38-26.

After intermission, IPFW didn't slow down. Four minutes into the second the 'Dons had a 23 point lead. The Warriors weren't giving up though, going on a 15-2 run to take IPFW's lead down to ten with 12:21 left. IPFW opened up the game again from that point, putting 26 more points on the board to finish the game, 80-51.

Hilary O'Connell led all scorers with 17 points in just 19 minutes. She was 6 of 9 overall, including 5 threes. She also posted three assists and three steals.

Juliane Höhne put 14 on the board for the 'Dons. She went 6 of 9 from the field and 2 of 3 from the charity stripe. Tina Moen rounded out the 'Dons in double figures with 13 points. She connected for 5 of 6 from the paint and 3 of 5 from the line.

Nanyamka Moore pulled down nine boards for IPFW to go along with her nine points and three steals.

Wayne State was led in scoring by Kristen Rogers with 12. She was followed closely by Cherita Smith with 11 points. Nicole Rogers pulled down 14 balls for the Warriors.

IPFW (4-20) will face South Dakota State on Friday, February 24 at 7 pm at the Gates Center. On Sunday the 26th they will face North Dakota State in a doubleheader at the Coliseum with the men. Game time is 1 pm.
