Mastodons Corral Lady Broncs

Fort Wayne , IN - The IPFW Women's Basketball team took a nine point lead at intermission and never looked back, defeating the Lady Broncs of Texas Pan American, 62-46.

Defense was the name of the game on Saturday afternoon at the Gates Center with just 20 points scored ten minutes into the first half. With the Lady Broncs up by the four at that point, the Mastodons went on a 17-4 run to finish out the half, up by nine, 25-16.

In the second the Mastodons took off right where they left off, taking a 15 point lead just seven minutes in. By the 2:38 mark the 'Dons had a 25 point lead before UTPA went on a 9-0 run to finish the game, 62-46.

The Mastodons led in almost every category over the Broncs. The 'Dons were 16 of 21 at the line (76.2%) and pulled down 37 rebounds with 12 assists and 11 steals.

IPFW had three in double digits. Johnna Lewis-Carlisle led all scoring with 19 points. She was 4 of 8 from the three point land and perfect at the line, 3-3.

Ashley Johnson was just one lay-up short of Lewis-Carlisle's total, finishing with 17. Johnson also posted four assists and five steals.

Tina Moen posted 14 points, going 6 of 8 from the paint and pulling down three rebounds.

For UTPA, Devin Reed put up 16 points, she was the only Lady Bronc in double figures. MaHogany Daniel led in boards with eight.

The Mastodons (3-20) will face Wayne State (2/21 7pm) and South Dakota State (2/24 7pm) at the Gates Center next week.
