Dons Surge in Second, Not Enough for the W

Orem, UT – The Dons were down by 12 at the end of the first half to Northern Colorado in the Independent Tournament when the Dons surged in the second, outscoring the Bears 36-27. It was not enough though for the win. The Dons fell, 58-55 to the Bears.

The Bears were ahead most of the game, but made their last bucket from the field with just under six minutes left. The Dons last scored with just under a minute left but good defense kept the Bears on top. The Bears were up by one with just under a minute left when the Dons fouled and UNC made two free throws.

The Dons were led by sophomore Hilary O'Connell with 14 points. She was 4 of 13 from beyond the arc and also had four boards.

Senior Courtney Nicley scored her 1,000th point and 11 others to put in 12 points for the Dons along with five boards and two steals.

Senior Verea Bibbs also scored 12 points, all from the field. She also had six rebounds and one steal for the afternoon.

For the Bears, Nicole Ford had 12 points and Jena Fosdick had 10. Danielle Hagen pulled down 11 boards for Northern Colorado.

The Dons will continue on in the Independent Tournament on Friday and Saturday. Utah Valley State, Texas A&M Corpus Christi, Texas Pan American, Northern Colorado and Savannah State are also competing in the Independent Tournament.
