Dons Fall to 2-12 with Loss to Longwood

Farmville, VA – The Mastodons traveled to Longwood University for their first meeting with the Lancers. Even with many runs, the Dons were unable to finish the Lancers and fell, 67-57.

Sophomore Molly Martin (Terre Haute, IN/Noblesville) led the Dons with 11 points. She was 4 of 5 from the field, including 3 from beyond the arc. Martin was followed by fellow sophomore Hilary O’Connell (Warsaw, IN/Warsaw) who chipped in ten. Junior Geneva Murdock (Fort Wayne, IN/North Side) and senior Courtney Nicley (Lebanon, IN/Western Boone) each chipped in nine points for the Dons.

Defensively, Nicley chipped in eight boards and was followed by sophomore Ashley Johnson (Kokomo, IN/Kokomo) with five. Nicley and O’Connell also each had two steals for the afternoon.

For the Lancers, Marita Meldere had 24 points and 19 rebounds. Amber Mason recorded 16 points and 6 boards.

The Dons are on the road at Radford University on January 10. Their next home game is January 18 versus the Penguins of Youngstown State University starting at 7:00 p.m. at the Gates Center.
