Highlanders Work Hard to Get Past Dons

Radford, VA – The Highlanders of Radford University took the lead with just six minutes to go and never looked back, downing the Dons 78-69. IPFW was up by four at half and took an early five point lead in the second, when Radford fought back and made a 7-0 run. In just under nine minutes there were seven ties and three lead changes.

For the Dons, three ladies finished with double digit points. Freshman Johnna Lewis-Carlisle (Lexington, KY/Henry Clay) had 18 points and was 4 of 4 from beyond the arc. Sophomore Ashley Johnson (Kokomo, IN/Kokomo) had 16 points and was 6 of 13 from the field and perfect at the line (4-4) to go along with her two steals.

Senior Verea Bibbs (Euclid, OH/Euclid) recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards. Bibbs was 6 of 10 from the field and also recorded three blocks and two steals.

For the Highlanders, Taryn Causey had 22 points and three steals. Shavon Earp recorded 18 points and five boards. Corrie Fertitta recorded Radford’s only double-double with 12 points and 11 boards.

The Dons next home game is January 18 versus the Penguins of Youngstown State University starting at 7:00 p.m. at the Gates Center.
